2018 Top Toffee Awards Announced

We are proud to present the results of the 2018 TOFFEE AWARDS Competition.

The International Chocolate Salon Awards for the 2018 TOFFEE AWARDS are based on the combined total number of votes received by each entrant from the Judging Panel.

The Judging Panel consists of National and Regional Magazines, Newspaper and Blog Editors, plus Topic Experts, Local Chefs and Food Gurus.

The award winners below have the honor of being able to display and use the Official Award Winner title and award logos, as well as use items (such as the Award Winner lapel pin), as well as use Custom Award Certificates, and logo award merchandise.

JEvelyn is classic. Holm made cardamom for it's unique flavors

Toni's Original Toffee, closely followed by Sweet Alchemy Almond and Ava's Sea Salt Pecan

Confectionately Yours English Dark Almond Toffee was the overall favorite; a true classic, perfectly balanced in flavors and texture.

Dave's Coffee Toffee was unique in taste, texture, and totally toffee fun! Tombo always satisfies..the perfect toffee. Ava's pecan and sea salt was a great combo. Toni's Red Hot had great heat. Tombo Bourbon Toffee really tasted of bourbon...great with chocolate toffee.

In all the best toffees, the taste of fresh, quality ingredients is what comes through. Toffees made with just pure butter and sugar perfectly caramelized, then enhanced with nuts or perhaps a clean flavoring have a depth of true "toffiness" that lingers. Additiional flavorings should not overpower the quintessential toffee-tasting base. Other additives such as lecithin, oils, crumbs, etc. often detract from, rather than enhance, the taste and mouthfeel of the product.

Great representational samples of some really unique toffees, as well as solid delicious traditional toffees. Ingredients were fab!

So many good toffees to experience. It's exciting to see a traditional category evolve in so many interesting and new directions.

INDIVIDUAL JUDGES' RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CHOCOLATIERS

The "Hot" is too Hot Just a little bite is fine.

Sweet Alchemy Slivered, Sliced & Diced Almond Toffee w/ 61% Dark Chocolate was an unique treat as it provided a surprising smokiness goodness. Confectionately Yours English Toffee - Northwest Gourmet Dark Chocolate Almond provided overall balance of flavor, texture, and toffee to chocolate to nut ratio. It's the epitome of great English toffee.

Toni's: Lovely product. Please add to your label, the name of city where manufactured. Tiddlewink: Where are you located? Packaging doesn't say, web site doesn't say. Sweet Girl: All labels say "premium chocolate" but Island Butter Rum flavor has NO chocolate. Cayenne flavor has partially hydrogenated oil & artificial flavor, but toffee flavor does not?

Sweet Alchemy Almond - Great ratios of nuts and chocolate to toffee. The slightly bitter dark chocolate is a perfect foil for the sweet toffee.. Ava's Sea Salt pecan - great buttery toffee and toasted pecans work incredibly well together. Dave's Sweet Tooth Coffee Toffee - interesting surprise to have whole coffee beans in the toffee - but it works.. Tiddlywink Pretzel - a nice option for people who can't eat nuts. Liked the thin, buttery toffee. Holm Cardamom - interesting flavor. Toffee not buttery, not browned enough. Sweet Girl Pecan - very good toffee - sweet, caramelized and a touch of salt. Wish the chocolate was thicker to give it more balance. With just a little tweaking it could be great! Sweet Girl Rum - could really taste the rum - interesting. Some of the nuts were rancid. In general, consider better packaging. Sweet Girl Cayenne - the heat overwhelms everything else. Toffetopia - nice nuts and very buttery toffee. Just a bit too sweet.
