2020 Toffee Award Winners Announced

We are proud to present the results of the 2020 TOFFEE AWARDS Competition.

The International Chocolate Salon Awards for the 2020 TOFFEE AWARDS are based on the combined total number of votes received by each entrant from the Judging Panel.

The Judging Panel consists of National and Regional Magazines, Newspaper and Blog Editors, plus Topic Experts, Local Chefs and Food Gurus.

The award winners below have the honor of being able to display and use the Official Award Winner title and award logos, as well as use items (such as the Award Product Stickers, Award Winner lapel pin), as well as use Custom Award Certificates, and logo award merchandise.

A tie between Tomo dark chocolate and The Confectionist almond
Tomo s’mores and I’m not normally a big s’mores fan!
Two favorites: Crack'd Toffee Company Premium Dark Roast Toffee, with its perfect, not overpowering coffee flavor; and Fort worth Fudge and Toffee's Texas Spiced Brittle with its combination of spicy almonds, pecans and pistachios -- just addictive!
The Tennessee Gingersnap. Many invigorating and tasty flavors
Tennesse Toffee Gingersnap, and I'm not a big gingersnap fan. So unique..great texture and taste! New to me.
This was a tough competition with lot of good entries. My favorite was the Confectionist Pistachio Orange toffee.

QUOTABLE COMMENTS FROM JUDGES

Toffarazzi was like the best Heath Bars EVER - loved it and I'm not even a milk chocolate fan.

This group of samples had so many great toffees -- many with great texture, some with intriguing flavor combinations, and the best had bases made with pure and simple ingredients so that the taste of creamy butter, pure cane sugar, fresh nuts, and a little salt came through. These producers are mastering the art of toffee making!
Most toffees are good, but what sets apart great toffees is unique and exceptional flavor pairings.
The Confectionist Pistachio Orange Toffee is fresh, original, unique and perfectly balanced with savory splendor. I'm craving another piece.
Love the fun packaging used by Fritz Toffee Company. Holm Made Toffee's Cardamom & Vanilla had a very nice balance between the flavors. Enjoyed Holm Made Toffee's White Chocolate Raspberry's fruity and refreshing flavor combination. Who knew that Gingersnap Toffee would be so good; thanks Tennessee Toffee! Loved the caramelly, cotton candy nuances from Naked Toffee's Almond Toffee. The sugar notes sing without the distraction of chocolate.

INDIVIDUAL JUDGES' RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CHOCOLATIERS

Some of the entries had nut "dust" on top, rather than pieces of nuts - not so good. Some seemed to have rather skimpy chocolate layers. I really liked the ones that had a touch of salt to balance the sweetness.
Crack D bad name. Exterior box difficult to open. DGZ box attractive , upscaling to truffle box look but toffee very dry. Fritz toffee, good idea in plastic tall tub but plastic look cheap. Seleuss, interesting upscale tin. Toni’s Toffee looks perhaps too childlike, not sure what it is. Understand unicorn idea for kids. But are children choosing this box? Banyan tree sea foam . Interesting, different. Toffee sticks to your teeth. A bit weird taste, reminiscent of dirty socks. Great packaging. Banyan tree sea foam. Spongy toffee Tomorrow toffee. Dark chocolate. Nice texture. Traditional toffee taste and texture.good, Crack’D. Dear. Seriously pkging and bong issues. Box hard to open. Blk plastic lols like drug desk. Holm made toffee. Texture top too crunchy, taste fake recipe good but cardamom doesn’t work,
Would suggest that Naked Toffee Co. reduce the amount of lecithin because it makes the toffee oily. The best toffees are taste pure and creamy, with only butter, sugar, nuts, a little baking soda and salt. Also, Holm Made Toffee Co. uses sunflower lecithin and I found it had a cleaner taste than soy lecithin. Naked Toffee Co. might try that if they believe lecithin is needed.

I enjoyed the many riffs on the toffee theme. The most successful merged their ingredients to make a confection that comes together as a whole (visually and flavor-wise) rather than toffee plus another taste.

TN Toffee Company: Your Gingersnap toffee itself is absolutely delicious, but would be out of this world with dark chocolate. Those who don't like white chocolate [might] find it too sweet. Even plain would be great! Hazelnut Hill - churro toffee had good flavor on it's own without the raspberry in it or white chocolate, which made it way too sweet. Would have loved it with just the cinnamon.
DGZ, please drop the "vanillin" and just use pure vanilla. Flavor is not the place to skimp. By the way, I voted your Toffarazzi as top in show.
